Carrasco signs new Atletico Madrid deal

Xinhua, October 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Belgian international winger Yannick Carrasco has signed a new contract with the club.

The 23-year-old has extended his stay at the Vicente Calderon Stadium from June 2020 until the end of June 2022 and has also upped the value of his buyout clause from an accessible 40 million euros to 100 million euros (around 110 million US dollars).

That is the same buyout clause as striker Antoine Griezmann and goalkeeper Jan Oblak also extended their contracts recently, while Saul Niguez and Gabi Fernandez have also extended their contracts at the club as Atletico look to safeguard the squad which has taken the club to two Champions League finals in three years.

"I am really happy to have renewed my contract with Atletico. It's a great club, a family and I want to stay here," said Carrasco on the Atletico website.

"We are a family form the President down to the kitman. The players gave me a big welcome when I first arrived and if I have all I could ask for here, why go anywhere else?" Enditem
