Neymar pens long-awaited new Barca deal

Xinhua, October 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona striker Neymar Jr on Friday signed a new contract which will keep him at the Camp Nou until the end of 2021.

The 24-year-old, who will make his 100th league appearance for Barca when they face Valencia on Saturday, had agreed the basis of a new deal over the summer to end months of speculation of interest from sides in the English Premier League and even Real Madrid.

His new contract sees him maintain a buyout clause of 200 million euros (around 220 million US dollars) for the current campaign, but that will rise to 222 million for the 2017-18 season and to 250 million euros the year after, theoretically putting him out of the price range of all of the clubs interested in signing him.

Neymar signed the contract in an act with Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as Vice-President, Jordi Mestre and Sporting Director, Robert Fernandez.

Since joining Barcelona in the summer of 2013, Neymar has won 2 Spanish League titles, 2 King's Cups, the Champions League, 2 Spanish and one European Supercup and the World Club Championship.

He has made 150 appearances for Barca, scoring 91 goals and formed a devastating attacking trio with Luis Sanchez and Leo Messi and with Messi now 29 years old, Neymar is tipped to take over the Argentinean's mantle as the best player in the world in the not-too-distant future. Endit
