Tokyo shares close slightly higher by break on EU stimulus expectation

Tokyo shares closed slightly higher Friday morning after European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi signaled an extension of the ECB's quantitative easing program.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 50.03 points, or 0.29 percent, from Thursday to 17,285.53.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.80 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,372.60.
Gainers were led by mining, air transportation and real estate issues. Endit
