Portuguese gov't approves program to fight tendency of having public services deserted

The Portuguese government on Thursday approved a program with 164 measures to fight the tendency that public services have been deserted in the country.

At a press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Assistant Minister Eduardo Cabrita said that the program aims to create a more favourable fiscal framework and reopen diverse public services,

Cabrita said the program will encourage private investment in the country and would lead to the reopening of schools and health centers.

There will be dialogues with local entities to detect each region's specific needs, he added.

The measures approved include incentives to place doctors in underprivileged areas, the reactivation of 20 closed courts and fiscal benefits for small and medium sized companies which base themselves in the country.

There is no budget yet for the program but there are aims and calendars, Cabrita pointed out. Endit
