Bulgarian law enforcement authorities seized on Thursday morning nearly 11 kg of heroin at Kapitan Petko Voyvoda checkpoint near the country's southeastern border with Greece, officials said.
The heroin, split into 20 packets, was hidden in a secret compartment in a Bulgaria-registered car entering from Greece, the country's Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
The police arrested on the spot the driver, a 26-year-old Bulgarian national, as well as his suspected accomplice, also 26-year-old Bulgarian, who followed him in another car.
Bulgaria, a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe, seized at its borders 256 kg of heroin in 2015. Endit
