Uganda drops in latest world football ranking

Although Uganda still remains the best in the East and Central Africa region, it dropped by seven places in the latest ranking by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).

Uganda, who's just qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), slipped to 72nd place with 55 points. The drop is attributed to their 1-0 loss in an international friendly early this month to Togo. While Uganda dropped by seven places, Togo climbed by seven places to 93.

Milutin Sredojevic, Uganda's national football team coach, said on Thursday that they have shifted their focus to the AFCON tournament early next year and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In the rankings released in Zurich on Thursday, Uganda still maintained top spot in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations region with Kenya second after improving by six places to 85th.

Rwanda and Ethiopia maintained their places in 107 and 126 respectively, while Burundi slipped to 138th.

African champion Cote d'Ivoire reclaimed their top spot when they improved by three places to 31st place, while Senegal and Algeria are also in 32nd and 35th places respectively.

Argentina maintained their top ranking with 1,621 points, while world champion Germany moved to second place and Brazil third. Endit
