Russian research vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov starts scientific Antarctic expedition

The Russian research vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov left Arkhangelsk port on Wednesday and set off for Bremerhaven, Germany in order to take part in the largest international scientific Antarctic expedition.

TASS reports that the goal is to circumnavigate the Antarctic Continent and visit sub-Antarctic islands. Some 22 projects in glaciology, climatology, biology, oceanography, etc. will be accomplished during the expedition.

The active stage will begin on Dec. 22 in the port of Cape Town, South Africa. It will last for three months. Endit
