Xinhua, October 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks edged higher Wednesday morning as an initially firm yen inhibiting buying was countered by China's economic growth data released being in line with median market expectations.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched up 23.55 points, or 0.14 percent, from Tuesday to 16,987.16.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edge up 0.58 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,357.15.

Notable gainers by the morning break were led by fishery, agriculture and forestry, financial stock and retail-linked issues. Enditem
