24 pct of Belgian employers facing talent shortages: survey

Almost a quarter of Belgian employers are having difficulties filling job vacancies, Manpower Group said Tuesday in its 11th talent shortage survey.

The talent shortage is more or less at the same level as last year but with stronger disparities on the regional level: 31 percent in Flanders, 22 percent in Brussels and 13 percent in Wallonia.

Among the 751 employers surveyed, the list of the hardest jobs to fill were skilled trade workers, drivers, technicians, administration staff, sales representatives and managers, health professionals, nurses, IT staff and laborers.

Lack of available applicants (26 percent), lack of technical competences (18 percent), lack of experience (17 percent) and lack of workplace competences (16 percent) were the four key difficulties employers faced.

Employers chose skills development of existing staff and using untapped talent pools to fight against talent shortage.

"Training is essential for companies willing to maintain their performance and to develop skill they will need in the future," said Manpower Group BeLux managing director Philippe Lacroix.

Worldwide, talent shortages are at the highest level in eight years with 40 percent of employers failing to find the right talent. Endit
