Xinhua, October 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least two people were killed in a fire that broke out at a highrise residential building in Mumbai, India on Tuesday, a senior police official said.

The fire started on the 21st floor of the Maker Tower, an upscale residential complex in south Mumbai, at around 7:00 a.m. (local time) when many residents were asleep.

"While two residents were charred to death, fire fighters rescued 11 people who got trapped in the fire. Efforts are on to contain the blaze," the official said, on condition of anonymity.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said, adding that an electrical short-circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. Endit
