All public gatherings, demonstrations banned in Ankara: official

The Ankara governorate announced on Monday that all public gatherings and demonstrations are banned until Nov. 30 after receiving information about potential terror attacks.

The governorate said in a statement on its official website that it had received intelligence "that terror organizations were preparing actions in our province."

The terror groups were thought to have been planning attacks on meetings and public demonstrations, it added.

The decision, in line with the state of emergency imposed in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt, was taken "to ensure people's safety and public order," the governorate said.

On Oct. 10, 2015, 103 people were killed when suicide bombers linked to Islamic States blew themselves up in a crowd of people planning to hold a rally outside Ankara's main train station. Endit
