The "Wolves" and head coach Dieter Hecking have mutually agreed to end the collaboration with immediate effect, the struggling Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Monday.
After six points from seven games, Wolfsburg parted ways with Dieter Hecking, who took the helm in 2013.
Sunday's surprising 1-0 defeat to Bundesliga newcomers Leipzig was the final straw as the "Wolves" slumped to the 14th place in the standings.
"After the last disappointing performances, we decided to give the team a new impetus by changing the coaching position," Wolfsburg's sporting director Klaus Allofs said.
Wolfsburg won their last game at the first round against Augsburg at the end of August, since then, Hecking's side reaped only three draws and defeats.
"I am very sorry for this step. It was a great pleasure to work with Dieter Hecking. In almost four years we worked closely and successfully together."
For now, Wolfsburg's Under-23 coach Valerien Ismael will succeed as an interims solution before the club presents a new coach.
"Of course, I am disappointed," Hecking told the club's official homepage. "But, as a coach in this business, it is important to expect a dismissal if the success is not with you. This was the case unfortunately in the last time."
