The Slovenian police have stopped several crossing attempts of illegal immigrants from Croatia over the last weekend as the number of illegal immigrants crossing the Slovenian border has been rising recently.
Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported that a group of four Iraqi men from Germany and Austria were caught in the Ptuj area in the northeast of the country on Friday, smuggling a dozen Syrians, including children.
Another group of five persons were chased and forced back to Croatia by Slovenian police helicopter, horses and dogs, the STA reported quoting the national police.
On Sunday, five men from Afghanistan were found hidden in a lorry at the Obrezje border crossing in the east, and nine people from Algeria, Eritrea, Libya and Morocco were found on a cargo train in Ilirska Bistrica in the south.
All illegal immigrants were handed over to the Croatian authorities, the STA report said, while criminal charges were filed against the smuggling suspects who were caught in Slovenia and they have been under custody. Endit
