Roundup: HK stocks close 0.84 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks closed down 195.77 points, or 0.84 percent to 23,037.54 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,978.01 and 23,177.19. Turnover totaled 53.59 billion HK dollars (about 6.91 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 60.32 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 9,541.08.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, lowered 0.76 percent to close at 58.05 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX fell 0.97 percent to 203.4 HK dollars.

As for other heavyweights, China Mobile plunged 1.18 percent to 92.1 HK dollars, Tencent dipped 0.09 percent. Local airline Cathay Pacific bucked the trend, rising 0.58 percent to close at 10.34 HK dollars.

CKH Holdings, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, retreated 0.46 percent to 96.45 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks were down. Bank of China lost 0.58 percent to 3.42 HK dollars. Bank of Communications lowered 0.69 percent to 5.75 HK dollars. China Construction Bank dropped 0.35 percent to 5.64 HK dollars. ICBC fell 0.84 percent to 4.68 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, PetroChina fell 0.93 percent to 5.3 HK dollars. CNOOC lost 1.91 percent to 10.24 HK dollars. Sinopec slid 0.35 percent to 5.7 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars) Endit
