1st LD: Strong quake hits near PNG, no tsunami alert issued

A strong quake with magnitude of 6.7 jolted near Papua New Guinea on Monday, according to Indonesian geophysics and meteorology agency.

The quake jolted at 13:14 p.m. Jakarta time (GMT0614) with epicenter at 422 km northeast Portmoresby and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, the agency said.

There was no tsunami warning issued.

The USGS reported that the quake was at 6.9 magnitude with the depth of 35 km. Endit
