Industrial development key in China's poverty alleviation: official

Xinhua, October 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

The development of industries plays a fundamental role in Chinese government's poverty alleviation efforts, an official said Sunday at a forum.

Industrial development will help eradicate poverty by raising independent development capabilities of poverty-stricken areas and ensure the long-term effects of poverty-relief efforts, vice agricultural minister Yu Xinrong said at a forum on poverty reduction.

China aims to bring 30 million people out of poverty through industrial development before 2020.

Local authorities should properly deal with the relations between industrial development and long-term income growth and introduce projects that allow participation of people in poverty, Yu added.

Earlier this year, several government departments unveiled a guideline on promoting accurate poverty reduction through developing industries with local features in poverty-stricken areas.
