The following are highlights of South African major news outlets on Saturday.

-- Parliament has turned down a request by outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to keep the "state capture" report safe in the run up to the application to stop its release.

"The Speaker has an obligation in terms of the Rules of the Assembly to table all documents received for the information of Members, in order to ensure that the business of the Assembly is conducted in an open and transparent manner," Parliament said in a statement on Friday night. (News24)

-- Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has received some more support -- this time from the respected organizations Freedom under Law and The Helen Suzman Foundation, who have called for the charges to be withdrawn.

The two entities have sent a letter titled "Urgent steps to stop the madness" to the National Prosecuting Authority. In it, they expressed their extreme displeasure at the manner in which Gordhan has been treated. (City Press)

-- Nine people have been arrested overnight following violent protests in Braamfontein in the Johannesburg CBD.

Police had their hands full near Wits University main Campus when protests in the CBD turned violent. (South African Broadcasting Corporation) Endit
