At least seven people died and half a dozen others were injured after a boat accident in a local Maikhola River in Ilam District of Nepal, some 600 km east of Capital City Kathmandu, police said on Friday afternoon.

Chief of the Ilam District Police Office Sushil Kumar Yadav told local media that 30 people were rescued alive in the incident.

"We have recovered the seven dead bodies from the incident site so far and the rescue operation is underway in coordination with local residents," Yadav said.

About 45 people were onboard the boat that capsized and sank Friday while travelling from Danabari to Mahamai area of the district.

"We are yet to make sure that how many people were onboard the boat," Yadav added. Endit
