Mexican government expresses condolences on Thai king's passing

Xinhua, October 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Mexican government on Thursday expressed its condolences on the passing of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"Mexico's government expresses its sorrow for the unfortunate death of his Majesty, the King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej," said the foreign ministry via a press release, extending a greeting of solidarity to the Thai people and the royal family for their loss.

The ministry also said that Adulyadej's 70-year-reign was "the longest" compared to his contemporaries.

King Bhumibol died on Thursday at the age of 88 in a hospital in Thailand's capital city of Bangkok, according to the Bureau of Royal Household.

The deceased king was the longest reigning monarch ever in the world with a total of 70 years on the throne since being crowned in June 1946.

Mexico and Thailand established diplomatic relations on Aug. 28, 1975. Endi
