Xinhua, October 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Some eight Afghan army personnel died amid military operations and separate attacks across the country since early Wednesday, the country's Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"Eight Afghan National Army brave personnel were martyred during military operations and by the enemies' attacks within the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a written statement.

The statement said scores of armed militants were killed as the national army launched, in close coordination with police and intelligence agency personnel, several military and cleanup operations over the same period in 11 of the country's 34 provinces.

Among the killed was a local Taliban commander named Abubaker, the statement said, adding that "about 63 militants were wounded and two others were detained during the raids carried out in Nangarhar, Ghazni, Paktia, Uruzgan, Ghor, Farah, Badghis, Herat, Baghlan, Faryab and Helmand provinces,"

The joint forces also destroyed eight vehicles, 18 motorcycles and three heavy machine guns, according to the statement.

The Taliban militants have yet to make comments. Enditem
