Real Madrid, Kroos agree contract extension

Xinhua, October 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid have confirmed that the club has reached agreement for German international midfielder Tony Kroos to extend his contract with the club.

The 26-year-old, who joined Real Madrid in 2014 on a six-year-deal, has added a further two years to his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by signing a contract extension until the end of June 2022.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Toni Kroos have come to an agreement on a contract extension which will see the player linked to the club until 30 June 2022," confirmed the Real Madrid website.

Kroos has quickly become a key player for Madrid, although he has had to play in a deeper midfield role in recent games, taking away some of his creative edge.

With Real Madrid quiet in the transfer market this summer and facing a FIFA transfer ban which will stop them signing new players until January 2018, the club has adopted a policy of assuring the future of its key players and Kroos' new deal is expected to be followed by players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Pepe all signing contract extensions in the coming weeks.
