New Zealand FM says to discuss Pacific, UN matters in China

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully will travel to Beijing this week to discuss a range of international issues.

McCully said Thursday in a statement that he would discuss issues including cooperation in the Pacific and matters currently before the United Nations Security Council.

"New Zealand attaches major importance to our relationship with China, as one of our largest export markets and as a partner in the Asia-Pacific region," McCully said in the statement.

"Two-way trade between New Zealand and China now stands at 22 billion NZ dollars (15.49 billion U.S. dollars) and this is underpinned by regular political dialogue at all levels."

New Zealand will finish a two-year stint as a temporary member of the UN Security Council at the end of this year. Endit
