Malta's police, refugee commissioner office to receive 2.2 million USD for four projects

The Malta police force and the office of the refugee commissioner will receive almost 2 million euros (2.2 million U.S. dollars) for four projects, of which about 1.5 million euros will be financed from EU funding, according to a statement from the Malta's government on Wednesday.

Ian Borg, Malta's parliamentary secretary for EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds, said that two projects of the police including the access to Interpol and Europol databases, aimed at strengthening police capabilities against cyber-crime and integrating national police systems with international databases.

The other two projects will implemented by the office of the refugee commissioner to strengthen the asylum procedure under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-2020.

Borg declared that more projects will be approved in the coming weeks under the Internal Security Fund (ISF) and Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), which aim to strengthen Malta's security mechanisms as well as facilitate integration of third country nationals in Malta.
