4 soldiers killed in fighting with armed men in Myanmar western state

Four soldiers were killed in a fighting between Myanmar government troops and 300 violent armed men Tuesday in Maungtaw, western Rakhine state, when the government troops were clearing the area following attack on three border posts by the armed men on last Saturday midnight.

The troops who took position near Pyaungpit village, were attacked from the north and the west by the armed men equipped with pistols, swords and knives, the military-run Myawaddy media reported Wednesday.

The body of one attacker was claimed while one soldier was injured.

In two other incidents over the last two days, the government troops captured four armed attackers and seven bodies with weapons during an area clearance operation in three other villages.

The four attackers are currently under interrogation.

On Saturday midnight, a violent attack occurred on the three border posts, and nine policemen were killed and five others injured with one still missing.

Eight armed men were also killed with two being captured alive, according to local police. Endit
