Tokyo stocks open down on Wall Street's losses, firm yen

Xinhua, October 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks opened lower on Wednesday mirroring losses on Wall Street overnight, with the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar further adding to a dour market mood.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 132.38 points, or 0.78 percent, from Tuesday to 16,892.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 9.81 points, or 0.72 percent, to 1,346.54.

The majority of industry categories on the main section retreated into negative territory, with iron and steel, mining and banking issues comprising notable decliners. Endit
