4 children, 1 adult killed in shooting, arson in Jamaica

Xinhua, October 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five people, including four kids, were killed in a shooting and arson incident in Jamaica's St. Catherine parish on Sunday morning.

The police said a group of heavy-armed men, including several dressed in police uniforms, broke into a small community which accommodate two separate homes, forcing their way into the rooms, spraying bullets to the residents, and torching the houses before leaving.

The body of four children and an adult were recovered from the debris. Two other persons, who sustained bullet wounds in the attack, were sent to hospital.

Senior Superintendent Anthony Powell, head of the St. Catherine North Police Division, said a police patrol, alerted by the cracks and the blaze, engaged the criminals in a shootout but failed to stop them from fleeing.

The police have named a person as related to the incident but said the motive remains undetermined. Endi
