Algerian defense ministry said on Friday that its troops killed four militants in northern Algeria, as part of the ongoing counter-terrorism operation.

The ministry said the four were killed in Azeffoun in northern province of Tizi Ouzou, some 120 km southeast of the capital Algiers, while four Kalashnikov machine guns were retrieved. (Algeria-Counter Terror)

BERLIN -- German police evacuated a school in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany on Friday, but found no suspect, German media Focus reported.

"A person with a weapon was seen before (the evacuation)," a police spokesperson told the press on Friday. (German-School-Evacuation)

UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council is scheduled to have an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss the current situation in Syria as Russia and the United States are at odds with each other over the airstrikes on the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, diplomats told Xinhua here Friday.

The emergency council meeting is to start at 3:00 p.m. EDT (1900 GMT) on Saturday, and the council members are expected to vote on a draft resolution on Syria, said the diplomats. (UN-Syria-Emergency Meeting)

BOGOTA -- Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos, who won the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, dedicated his award to the millions of victims of armed conflict in the country for their dedication to achieving peace.

Speaking from the presidential palace in Bogota, Santos said the Nobel Prize "is for the victims and for there not to be one more victim, one more death. We must reconcile and united to end this process and begin to build a stable and lasting peace." (Colombia-Nobel Peace-Santos)

TOKYO -- Mount Aso, a volcano on Japan's main southern island of Kyushu, had an explosive eruption early Saturday, Japan Meteorological Agency said.
