Montreal called into Spain squad for injured Jordi Alba

Xinhua, October 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spain coach Julen Lopetegui has called Arsenal defender Nacho Montreal into his squad to play Albania away in Spain' s third World Cup qualifying game on October 9th.

Montreal replaces Barcelona left back, Jordi Alba who was forced to retire during the first half of Thursday' s 1-1 draw away to Italy, and replaced by Nacho Fernandez.

Alba has returned to Barcelona and is likely to be out of action for around 10 days, meaning he will probably miss the Primera Liga game at home against Deportivo la Coruna on October 15th and is a doubt for the key Champions League game at home with Manchester City the following Wednesday.

Spain played well away to Italy, taking the lead after 55 minutes thanks to a Vitolo goal after a terrible error by Italy goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, but a rash challenge by Sergio Ramos eight minutes from time allowed Daniele Di Rossi to equalize from the penalty spot to assure a share of the points.

Atletico Madrid' s Saul Niguez has also dropped out of the Spain squad after picking up a training injury which kept him out in Turin. Endit
