Indonesia's consumer confidence slightly drops in September

Xinhua, October 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indonesian central bank consumer confidence index decreased in September, reflecting that consumers' optimistic views and expectation of economic condition slightly declined, the lender said on Thursday.

The index slightly fell to 110 in September from 113.3 in August, said Hendy Sulistiowati, executive director of statistic at the bank.

Reading above 100 indicates consumers are optimistic.

"Expectation of consumers to their revenues declined," the official said.

That would make the consumers to delay purchase of durable goods, Sulistiowati said.

Indonesia's core inflation, excluding volatile and administrative, reached 3.21 percent in September from a year earlier, compared with 3.32 percent in the previous month, according to the national statistic bureau.

The central bank estimated the Southeast Asia's largest economy to expand about 5.04 percent this year and 5.2 percent next year.

The central bank resumed easing policy last month after a pause as it had aggressively cut its benchmark interest rate earlier this year to help spur growth. Endit
