China trail race offers qualification points for Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc

Xinhua, October 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

China's Shaowu Trail Race will offer qualification points for the renowned Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) as the event kicked start Thursday in South China's mountainous Fujian Province.

The cross country race, attracting over 1000 runners from around the world to compete in three divisions, will provide three points for the UTMB.

The race starting point was set at Heping town, an ancient town which is dated back to Ming dynasty as the route was designed to take participants to enjoy various fantastic sceneries along the way.

Organizers hoped the race could help further promote Shaowu city, where Heping town is located.

"Heping town as well as Shaowu city is a famous tourist destination. I hope sports fans, together with their friends and families, could experience joys both from sports and a tour around the city," said Zheng Jianqiang, Chairman of Fujian Provincial Road Running Sports Association.

UTMB, an annual mountain ultra marathon in the Alps, follows the route of the Tour du Mont Blanc through France, Italy and Switzerland. It is considered as one of the most difficult and risky races in Europe. It requires participants to win some qualifying points to make sure they're well prepared. Endite
