Azerbaijan marks Global Confucius Institute Day

The Azerbaijan University of Languages Confucius Institute on Wednesday hosted an Open Day dedicated to the Global Confucius Institute Day.

A ceremony attracted the university's students along with those who are interested in Chinese culture and language.

The program featured a traditional Chinese tea party and exhibition of books in Chinese language.

Speaking at the ceremony, The director of the Confucius Institute, Professor Rafig Abbasov, told about the main directions of the institute' s activity, Azerbaijan's participation in the implementation of China's Belt and Road Initiative aimed at the creation of trans-Eurasian economic and transport corridors.

Head of the Confucius Institute of the Azerbaijan University of Languages Li Jihua familiarized the guests with a variety of training programs and study in China. The staff of the Confucius Institute gave master classes in Chinese calligraphy and Chinese art of cutting paper.

The Confucius Institute is a non-profit public educational organization affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China to promote Chinese language and culture, support local Chinese teaching internationally, and facilitate cultural exchanges.

It was set up by Hanban of China, the country's agency established to promote Chinese culture globally, in all parts of the world.

Starting from scratch, the Confucius Institute has developed from a small to a large number with its education scale expanding and the quality of teaching improving day by day.

Up to now, altogether 495 Confucius Institutes and 1,000 Confucius Classrooms at primary and secondary schools have been built up in 134 countries around the world.
