Fiji gets 7.3 mln USD from Global Environmental Facility

Xinhua, October 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Fiji's Ministry of Local Government, Housing and Environment has been granted some 7.3 million U.S. dollars from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) reported on Tuesday.

The grant was announced at the Pacific Global Environment Facility Extended Constituency Workshop held in the Pacific island country earlier this week, the FBC said.

At the workshop, Solo Mara, Fiji's ambassador to the United States, was nominated as the representative to the GEF Council in Washington.

The workshop provides an opportunity for participants to meet with counterparts from the Pacific region to review policies and procedures, and share lessons for development and implementation.

Pacific island countries, including Fiji, have been fighting against the impacts of climate change, a threat to small islands' existence. Endit
