South African shares close weaker on Monday

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed lower on Monday with the all share index falling 0.56 percent to 5,1658.99 points.

Gold mining shares led the fall by sliding 2.24 percent.

The rand was trading at R13.66 to the US dollar, R17.49 to the British pound and R15.31 to the euro.

Precious metals fell, with gold losing 0.31 percent to sell at 1,311.88 U.S. dollars an ounce, silver dropping 0.92 percent to 18.97 U.S. dollars an ounce, and platinum declining by 1.58 percent to 1,006.25 U.S. dollars an ounce.

On the top ten gainers list was Arcelormittal SA whose shares rose 6.74 percent to sell at R9.50. Comair shares climbed 6.22 percent to R4.10. Endit
