Ukraine's car sales rise to nearly two-year high in September

Ukraine's new passenger car sales in September rose to their highest level since December, 2014, as demand continues to recover on the back of the overall economic revival in the country, industrial data showed Monday.

The Ukravtoprom Analysis Group said in a report that a total of 5,771 passenger cars were sold in Ukraine last month, up 32 percent year-on-year.

On a monthly basis, the sales increased by 2.5 percent, the report said.

Japan's Toyota was the most popular brand last month, taking a market share of 14.7 percent, followed by France's Renault and South Korea's Kia with 9 percent and 7.3 percent respectively, it said.

Ukraine's auto market was severely hit by the economic crisis that started in the country in early 2014, mainly because of the depreciation of the local currency and curtailment of banks' car loan programs.

Ukraine's car sales were down 52 percent year-on-year in 2015 to 46,546 units, after plunging by half in 2014.
