The following are news highlights in major Nigerian media outlets on Monday.

-- There were mixed reactions over the weekend across states in the South to President Muhammadu Buhari's Independence Day speech threatening to deal with Niger Delta militants.

Some leaders said they completely agree with the President, while others rejected what they termed as provocative comments at a time everybody expected him to be temperate in his utterances. (Vanguard)

-- A diplomatic row may be brewing between Nigeria and Turkey following the arrest and deportation of some Nigerian students from Istanbul by the Turkish police.

Rukkaya Usman, one of the Nigerian students deported from the country, said the Turkish government did not give a reason for the action. (The Punch) Endit
