Rafael Nadal happy about comeback performance after injury

Xinhua, October 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Rafael Nadal said at the China Open on Sunday that having injuries in the middle of a season is tougher but he is happy about his comeback performance.

The Spanish star withdrew from the French Open in May due to a worsening wrist injury, then the Wimbledon Championships for the same reason. But he returned at the Olympic Games in Rio and won the men's doubles gold medal.

"It's even more difficult when you have injuries in the middle of the season," he said. "If you have the injuries at the end of the season, everybody stops at the end of the season, so you have time to recover."

But it seemed he is satisfied with his comeback games.

"I should be happy the way I came back after the injury. I played a great Olympic Games, and I played a good US Open. I lost a match against a very good player, but a match that I had a big chance to win," he said.

Nadal lost to Lucas Pouille at the US Open, who was seen training with him on Sunday. They may have a reunion at the China Open quarterfinals. Endit
