Fire, explosion deaths up in Vietnam in first 9 months

A total of 2,460 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in the first nine months of this year, killing 90 people and injuring 216 others, while leaving losses of some 1,058 billion Vietnamese dong (47.4 million U.S. dollars), the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Saturday.

In the same period last year, the Southeast Asian country suffered 2,342 fires and explosions, which left 70 people dead and 245 others injured, and caused losses of 835.3 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 37.5 million U.S. dollars).

Natural disasters killed or left 125 people missing, injured 266 others, and caused property losses of some 10,500 billion Vietnamese dong (470.8 million U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of 2016, said Vietnam's General Statistics Office. Enditem
