Granada sack coach Jemez after just 6 games

Xinhua, September 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Granada have become the second Spanish club to sack their coach this season with the news on Thursday that Paco Jemez has been shown the door after just 6 games in charge.

Jemez leaves with Granada second from bottom of the Liga Santander table with just two points from six matches after draws against Betis and Villarreal and defeats versus Las Palmas, Eibar, Athletic Club and a 3-1 defeat away to Alaves on Monday.

The former Rayo Vallecano coach joined Granada after his four-year spell with Rayo Vallecano ended with relegation to the Spanish second division at the end of last season, but he arrived with a reputation as a man whose sides play attacking football, but show defensive frailties.

This season Granada have shown plenty of defensive weaknesses, but have still to prove themselves to be a potent attacking force.

"After studying the current situation and the results that have been obtained, we have decided on this decision following a unanimous vote," confirmed the Granada website which adds that that B-team coach, Lluis Planaguma will take temporary charge of the side.

Pako Ayestaran was the first coach to be sacked this season when he lost his job with Valencia after starting the season with four straight defeats. Endit
