Int'l cooperation remains core of sustainable development: Singapore FM

Xinhua, September 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

To achieve global security and prosperity, international communities need to work with each other to seek win-win outcomes, said Singapore foreign minister on Monday.

Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan made the remarks at the annual high-level debate of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

Singapore believes international partnerships are one of key requirements for the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, said the foreign minister.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can only be achieved with collaboration and partnership, Balakrishnan added.

"It is a reality that the world will become more and more interdependent," said Balakrishnan, "in such an environment, no country can succeed on its own."

This year's high-level General Assembly debate from Sept. 20-26 has gathered over 140 world leaders here in New York on a variety of issues, ranging from sustainable development, counter terrorism, and refugee and migrant crises. Enditem
