PARIS -- Two people were seriously injured on Monday when a man opened fire outside a supermarket in Yvelines, in the northern France region of Ile-de-France, according to local reports.

The man in his seventies opened fire at 12:30 local time (1030 GMT) on a 57-year-old cashier and a 73-year-old man, before holing himself up in a building, the news channel BFMTV reported. (France-Shooting-Supermarket)

TOKYO -- Japan's National Diet kicked off a 66-day extraordinary session on Monday, with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's economic policies, as well as whether to swiftly ratify the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact and to change the pacifist Constitution, under the spotlight.

Japanese Prime Minister Abe, taking TPP as a pillar of his economic strategy, has been calling for the pact's swift ratification since it was signed by Japan and 11 other countries in February. (Japan-TPP)

ADEN, Yemen, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Yemeni army troops killed a prominent al-Qaida leader southern province of Abyan on Monday, a security official told Xinhua.

The leader of the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch, identified as Abdullah Hubaibat, was killed when government troops raided a number of houses held by al-Qaida militants in Loder, a town in Abyan province, the security official said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Qaida-Killing) Endi
