Dutch cyclist Niki Terpstra claimed victory in the Eneco Tour, the 7-day tour through the Netherlands and Belgium, after leader Rohan Dennis abandoned the race in the final stage on Sunday.
Dennis (BMC) started the 7th stage over 197.8 kilometers from Bornem to Geraardsbergen, Belgium, as leader but the Australian fell and had to quit. Due to the rain, the roads in Flanders were slippery.
Etixx-QuickStep rider Terpstra, who was 5th overall before the stage, took the chance to attack and his attempt was successful. Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) won the stage, beating Terpstra and Belgian Oliver Naesen (IAM Cycling) in a final sprint.
Terpstra became the second Dutchman to win the race, after Lars Boom won in 2012. Endit
