Italian warship docks at Iran's port with message of friendship: TV

Xinhua, September 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Italian warship docked at Iran's southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday in line with the two countries' plan to boost friendly military ties, Press TV reported.

The Italian frigate, named Euro, arrived in Bandar Abbas for a four-day stay.

Commander of Iran's 1st Naval Zone, Admiral Amir Hossein Azad, said Saturday that the Italian frigate has been dispatched to the Islamic republic with the purpose of improving political, cultural and military relations.

Iran's enemies have always sought to spread Iranophobia, however, different countries' dispatch of military and naval forces to Iran and their participation in joint projects with Iran have proved Iran's importance to the world, said Azad.

Also, the Italian navy announced Saturday that the frigate was part of a mission by the European Union to fight piracy.

It added that the visit comes as part of the resumption of "historic and excellent relations" between the Iranian and Italian navies. Endit
