Tiger mauls Vietnamese caregiver to death

Xinhua, September 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

A 120-kg tigress suddenly mauled its 40-year-old caregiver to death when he was feeding it in Vietnam's southern Binh Duong province, local media reported Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in a tiger cage of Thai Binh Duong Company in Di An town, daily newspaper Tuoi Tre Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (HCM City Youth) reported. The victim was Luong Van Hai from the northern province of Thai Binh.

Hai took care of tigers for 20 years, and the tigress is over 10 years old, said the company's representative named Luong Thien Dan, who is the victim's relative.

The company currently raises 16 tigers, Dan noted. The accident is under investigation.

In Binh Duong, there are three entities which are permitted to raise tigers on a trial basis, including Thai Binh Duong Company, Thanh Canh tourism resort and Dai Nam Theme Park. In 2009, a tiger in the theme park jumped over a three-meter fence, and mauled a zoo staff to death. Enditem
