Nigeria nabs militant behind pipeline bombings

Xinhua, September 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nigerian security forces have captured a suspected Niger Delta Avenger (NDA) militant in southern Delta State, a senior Navy official said Thursday.

The suspect, Abraham Suru, nicknamed "Gabon," was apprehended on Sept. 20, 2016 in Sapele following a tip-off, said Joseph Dzunve, a regional navy commander.

The suspect was involved in criminal activities, including pipeline vandalism, sea robbery, illegal bunkering, since 2011, the navy chief told reporters in southern city of Warri.

Currently, he is a member of the NDA, whose attacks on oil pipelines in the southern region have crippled crude oil output, he added.

Dzunve said the navy was a committed component of Operation Delta Safe, adding that it was resolute in ensuring maritime safety. Endit
