Interview: China-BiH cooperation enjoys broad prospects: Chinese Ambassador

Xinhua, September 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Given the strong complementarities of the industries between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the two countries' cooperation enjoys broad prospects, Chinese Ambassador to BiH Chen Bo said here on Wednesday.

During an interview with Xinhua and Fena, the Federal News Agency of BiH, Chen said the Chinese businesses are known for their strengths and expertise in energy and transport infrastructure development, fields that the BiH have huge demands.

A ceremony was held on Tuesday to officially mark the launch of the Chinese-built Stanari power plant in BiH. The power plant, located in the northern BiH town of Stanari, was built by China's Dongfang Electric Corporation and financed with the help of a 350-million-euro (390.54 million U.S. dollars) loan from China Development Bank.

Chen stressed that the plant is the first major joint infrastructure project between China and BiH, but definitely will not be the last one.

She added that the power plant is the first project to utilize the 10-billion-U.S. dollar Special Credit Line under the frameworks of the 16+1 mechanism, which refers to a cooperative platform between China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries.

Its successful story represents a concrete result in the 16+1 format. Stanari is not just a bilateral project between China and BiH, but also plays an exemplary role in the 16+1 cooperation.

Chen emphasized that 16+1 cooperation covers a wide range of areas, such as economic cooperation and trade, financial services, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, science and technology, health and local cooperation.

She said she is confident that 16+1 cooperation will offer more opportunities for BiH on its path to development and prosperity, especially in areas such as energy and transport infrastructure, investment, tourism, culture and education. Enditem
