Cambodian PM meets 405 top-scored high school graduates

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Wednesday met with 405 students who passed their high school exit exam with Grade A, providing each of them 500 U.S. dollars and a tablet computer.

At the ceremony held at the Peace Palace, the prime minister encouraged them to continue their hard studying at university levels, saying that they would be valuable human resources for national development in the future.

The prime minister said the country's full peace and political stability were the major factors that enabled students to get full education and called on the people to continue joining with him to protect the hard-won peace.

"With peace, millions of children and youths have got education," he said.

The Southeast Asian country held the annual high school graduation exam last month with a total of 89,661 exam-takers. As a result, 55,753 applicants, or 62 percent, of them passed the test and 405 of the passers gained Grade A.

The top-scored graduates are 204 females and 201 males.

Cambodia has begun to strengthen high school quality since 2014 through cleaning up cheat and bribery during the grade 12 national exam. Enditem
