Borussia Dortmund reaped their second straight win after cruising to a 5-1 victory at Wolfsburg to open the fourth round in Bundesliga on Tuesday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's brace helped the "BVB" to earn the third win from four Bundesliga matches as Wolfsburg remained wasteful with their chances on home soil.
Thomas Tuchel's men caught a bright start on the road as Raphael Guerreiro opened the scoring with just four minutes into the game after beating Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteel's following a through-ball from Marc Bartra.
Wolfsburg had the chance to level the scores but Bruno Henrique missed the target from very close range four minutes later. The visitors made the most of their opportunities as Aubameyang doubled the lead for Dortmund in the 17th minute as he shrugged off Philipp Wollscheid to curl the ball into the far post corner.
Marcel Schmeltzer should have made it three on the scoreboards but the defender's shot from sharp angel got blocked by custodian Casteels moments later. The "Wolves" increase the pressure but neither Mario Gomez nor Maximillian Arnold were able to reduce the arrears before the break.
After the restart, Wolfsburg's efforts paid off as substitute Daniel Didavi made it 2-1 after tapping home Paul Seguin's square pass into the box with 53 minutes played.
It was however a short-lived joy for Wolfsburg as Dortmund turned up to restore their two-goal lead through Ousmane Dembele, who completed a fast break following an assist by Mario Goetze.
Wolfsburg were unable to recover from the setback whereas Dortmund gained momentum to add another two goals, as Aubameyang sealed his brace before Lukasz Piszczek's header rounded off the 5-1 win on the road.
With the result, Dortmund climb atop the standings for now while Wolfsburg suffered the first loss of the season.
Elsewhere, newly promoted Freiburg edged off winless Hamburg 1-0 thanks to the winner from substitute Nils Petersen late in the game.
Frankfurt wrapped up the second win in row as second-half goals from David Abraham and Bastian Oczipka sealed Ingolstadt's the third loss of the season, and Darmstadt and Hoffenheim shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw.
The following fixtures complete the fourth round in Bundesliga on Wednesday: title holders Bayern Munich host Hertha Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen see Augsburg, struggling Schalke face Cologne, newcomers Leipzig meet Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen encounter Mainz. Endit
