Syria accuses U.S. of supporting terror groups in Syria

Xinhua, September 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad accused Monday the United States of providing "support to the terrorist groups" in Syria, state news agency SANA reported.

"Every time the Syrian government makes a progress, the antagonist countries up their support to the terrorist groups," said Assad, during a meeting with the visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari.

The anti-Syria powers have exerted all their efforts and capabilities to continue the war in Syria, the president said.

The remarks came as the United States led an airstrike on Syrian military positions in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour on Saturday, killing 90 Syrian soldiers and wounding 110 others.

For his part, Ansari reaffirmed his country's determination to support the Syrian government by all means in its fight against terrorism. Enditem
