Armenia sees low turnout in first round of local elections

Xinhua, September 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Armenia sees a low turnout in its latest local government elections held on Sunday, according to the country's Central Electoral Commission on Monday.

The turnout was merely 49.42 percent, according to the commission's preliminary results of the first round of local government elections held in 317 communities of five of Armenia's provinces.

Final results of the first round are still coming in, but in a number of towns and villages winners have already been known.

The next and last round of the elections for community leaders and local councils will be held on Oct. 2, including in Armenia's second and third largest cities of Gyumri and Vanadzor respectively. Endi
