Britain has provided the UN World Food Program (WFP) with 3.9 million U.S. dollars to support thousands of displaced persons in Sudan's Darfur region, Sudan Tribune reported Sunday.
WFP Country Director Matthew Hollingworth thanked the British contribution, and said it would cover the needs of around 220,000 displaced persons in Darfur region.
The cash and voucher program, run by WFP, will provide people in need in the region with vouchers which can last four months to help them purchase food materials from local shops.
The WFP first launched the program in 2009 in central and eastern Sudan before it is expanded to cover the entire Darfur region.
The WFP said the program tends to provide life-saving food assistance for over six million people in Sudan in 2016. Endit
